Women Keep Silent in Church!

Some scholars believe verses :34-35 of 1 Corinthians chapter fourteen to be interpolations (forgeries)...and for good reason.

This is certainly within the realm of possibility as Paul himself admitted that letters “as from him” were being forged and sent to leaders of the early Christian groups (see 2 Thessalonians 2:2)It is difficult to make sense of two verses that contradict the tone and message of, not just Paul's letter to the Believers at Corinth but, the entire body of the scriptures as well.

Why would Paul command women to keep silence among the Out-Called, when earlier in the same letter he wrote that “every one of you” may prophesy? Not to mention he knew the scriptures that said God's daughters would prophesy as well as his sons.

In 1 Corinthians chapter eleven, Paul wrote the protocol for women in praying/preaching/prophesying publicly, when the Out-Called came together. This is likely the reason for the interpolation in chapter fourteen.

To instruct women in public-speaking protocol only to then restrict them to absolute silence among fellow believers is a ridiculous contradiction...and completely out of character for a man who, throughout his ministry, endorsed and honored women as leaders.

Another, not insignificant, reason to consider that verses 34-35 might be interpolations (forged inserts) is the break in continuity. 1 Corinthians chapter 14 deals with the subject of prophesying and speaking in tongues from start to finish. The only exceptions being the jarring diatribe against women in verses 34-35, without which the entire chapter would read seamlessly on the topics of prophesying and speaking in tongues:

29: Let the prophets speak two or three and let the others judge 30: If anything be revealed to another that sits by let the first hold their peace 31: For you may all prophesy [2] one by one that all may learn and all may be comforted 32: For the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets 33: Indeed God is not the author of confusion but of peace as in all churches of the saints

34: Let your women keep silence among the Out-Called for it is not permitted to them to speak but they are commanded to be under obedience as also says the law 35: And if they will learn anything let them ask their husbands at home for it is a shame for women to speak among the Out-Called

36: What came the word of God out from you or came it to you only 37: If any are deemed as prophets or spiritual let them acknowledge that the things that I write to you are the commandments of the Lord 38: But if any be ignorant [let them] be ignorant 39: Wherefore brethren covet to prophesy and forbid not to speak with tongues 40: Let all things be done decently and in order.

Two Points

  • There is no law that says women must be under obedience
  • There is no scriptural precedent that says it is a shame for women to speak in public

[2] 1 Corinthians 14:31 reveals at least three things. 1.) Every member of the Body of Christ has liberty to speak publicly to other members of the body of Christ without asking permission from hierarchical group leadership. 2.) Women are not excluded from publicly and authoritatively preaching and teaching to other members of the Ekklesia (Body of Christ) 3.) Women are not excluded from speaking publicly to men, and men are not forbidden to learn from women.

Verses 34-34 blatantly contradict verse 31 (along with myriads of other verses and passages). Verse 31 is just one of many scriptures that proves complementarian male headship is an unscriptural paradigm that exalts itself against the knowledge of God...and that verses 34-35 must be forgeries.

The Priesthood of Believers Makes Women Equal in Authority with Men

You also as living stones are built up a spiritual house an holy priesthood [1] to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ

1 Peter 2:5

[1] 1 Peter 2:5 calls the Church of the Living God a Spiritual House and a Royal Priesthood. Every believer is part of the Priesthood of Believers. With the exception of the gifts and callings, God does not separate his children into gender-based camps [the leader camp and the follower camp]. Jesus inducts every believer into the Priesthood of Believers Revelation 1:6. These two verses, if they stood alone [which they do not] disprove entirely the false patriarchal teachings of complementarianism. God has called his women as well as his men to live autonomous lives and to speak, preach, and lead authoritatively as HE wills.

What readers are saying:

"This book is well written, well researched, and a real eye opener."

"Andersen is a gifted writer, and the book was easy to read even as it covers thoughtful and sometimes technical information. I am glad I read it. I’ve read a great deal about women in the church and home, and it is easy to think there is nothing new to be learned or considered – but this book has a unique approach and covers aspects overlooked by others. Everything is well documented with footnotes in case you have questions or want sources."

"The author is not only a gifted writer but clearly well-studied and informed."

" I was pleased that translation bias was covered in a chapter, an issue that needs to be addressed, and one that I find quite hard to bring up with lay people or everyday believers who lack knowledge about Bible translation. We can trust our Bibles, but we also need to acknowledge that certain passages are difficult to translate and bias can come into play."

"Andersen tackles most of the primary the teachings of complementarianism with an impressive exegesis"

1 Corinthians 15:1-5: Why did Paul ignore this Fact?

Moreover brethren I declare to you the good news which I preached to you which also you have received and in which you continue By which also you are saved if you keep in memory what I preached to you unless you have believed in vain For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins agreeing to the scriptures And that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures And that he was seen of Cephas[1] then of the twelve [2]

[1] In 1 Corinthians 15:1-5, Paul defined the GOOD NEWS The Gospel as the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Mary was first at the tomb that resurrection morning. Mary was the first to see Jesus alive and not Cephas. Mary was the first preacher of the gospel. Peter [along with the other disciples] heard the gospel for the first time from a woman, Mary, who heard it from the angel.

Paul proved himself to be a strong supporter of women in ministry, examples being his equal treatment of Priscilla, Phoebe, and Junia. He learned from Priscilla. He called Phoebe a deacon. He called Junia an apostle. Pau had to know it was Mary, called the Magdalene (because she was from Magdala), who saw Jesus first after his resurrection, and not Cephas. For some reason [unintentional?], he drew a curtain of invisibility over the fact that it was a woman who saw Jesus first and preached the GOOD NEWS that Jesus alive after his crucifixion.

Most scholars agree that the gospels were written after the epistles. That being the case, the writers of the gospels, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, made certain that all the world would know it was a woman who first saw Jesus alive after he had been laid in the grave, and also that it was a woman who was the first preacher the New Testament gospel.

[2] The twelfth being Matthias, who had been with the disciples from the time Jesus was baptized by John until he died, was buried, and rose again –Acts 1:21-26

Who Can Preach the Gospel: Is the Great Commission Gender-Restricted?

I was told I make a big deal of nomenclature in the chapter dealing with the Redeemer, in my book, Redemption: Bible Prophecy Simplified - A Study of HOPE.

I do.

I make a big deal of who named who [and what God called the first humans], because prominent and incredibly influential Christian leaders made a big deal of it... first. They made such a big deal of it, that it became one of their premier arguments in mandating restrictive gender roles for women...roles the Bible does not mandate.

Their gender-role mandates restrict women's ministry options, and adversely effects relationships across the board, from working relationships, to friendships between women and men, to marriage relationships. I have written a 200+ page book and many articles on this subject. You can read one of my articles here.

The Great Commission is not gender-restricted, yet over half the Body of Christ is muzzled and forbidden to preach the Gospel, in part, because of the  "name" issue in Genesis. That makes this topic worth making a "big deal" over...don't you think?

What do you think? Are women included in the Great Commission to go and preach the Gospel to every creature...?

Was Susan B. Anthony Pardoned as an Election Year Ploy?

On the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to have their voices heard at the ballot box, Susan B. Anthony, who was arrested for casting a vote when only men were allowed to vote, was finally granted a Presidential Pardon.

When she was arrested, she refused to pay her fine, and though authorities refused to pursue her case, the charges against her were not dropped and remained until yesterday, when President Donald J. Trump finally  granted her a pardon.

President Trump is heavily criticized in the media, even for this. He is accused of targeting women for the 2020 election. Is that true? Let his record on women settle that question;

Donald J Trump is the first President in U.S. history to appoint so many women to key and top positions. Washington Examiner staff were shocked to find so many women in key and top positions connected with President Trump's campaign and administration.

"...when we reviewed new White House staffing numbers, it came as a bit of a surprise that in an administration led by a president often accused as anti-women in his policies and sometimes words, nearly half of the staff are women."

Over half his top staff consists of women!

It is shameful this President is not getting credit for this. It is shameful that the great thing he has done for Susan B. Anthony is being criticized as a cheap political ploy. There have been many administrations claiming to champion women, but the Trump administration has actually done it.

Women entrepreneurs are thriving under President Trump.

President Trump has been a champion of women, life, and faith from the moment he entered the Oval Office. He has: Issued Executive orders Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty | Established the White House Faith and Opportunity Initiative | Pardoned Susan B. Anthony | White House Celebrated the centennial of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote

He is  the First President in History:

The list goes on about the things this President has done to help women and minorities. But the mainstream news media is not telling. Good thing the American people know how to research these things for themselves,

And good on President Trump for Celebrating the anniversary of women's suffrage and for pardoning Susan B. Anthony!

If women can't teach men, then men should never read an unredacted Bible

If it is true, that scripture forbids women to teach men, then men should never read an unredacted Bible. All words spoken by women should be stricken from Bibles intended for men to read.
Ridiculous idea isn't it? Almost as ludicrous as the idea that women are forbidden by God to publicly speak words that might teach and lead men in paths of righteousness.

Remember the ancient rabbi who said he would rather the Torah be burned than taught by a woman? He said this despite the fact that the scriptures he taught, are filled with the inspired and authoritative words of women speaking the Word of God, and unless those words are stricken from the record, men who read them cannot help but be taught (whether they learn or not is another question altogether).
What happy news it is, that when rightly discerned, the Word of God is clear, that our Creator has always used his daughters as well as his sons to teach and preach his awesome WORD?

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy
 Joel 2:28

Your sons and your daughters shall preach
Acts 2:17

And on my male servants and on my female servants I will pour out in those days of my Spirit and they shall prophesy
Acts 2:18

The Bible Says Women Should be PROMINENT in God's Church

The Bible calls daughters "cornerstones" and not "pillars. The difference between the two is functional equality.

The Church of Jesus Christ has many cornerstones, and in Psalm 144:12, daughters are identified as cornerstones.[1] The Hebrew word translated cornerstone in Psalm 144:12, zaviyth, is derived from another Hebrew word, ziv, meaning bright or prominent.

Prominent persons among God’s people are generally considered leaders, and the Hebrew text that underlies the King James Version identifies women as being included among prominent leaders (cornerstones) who contribute to the adding to, nourishing, edifying, and unifying of the living stones which comprise God’s building.[2]

In critical and eclectic text Bible translations, a different Hebrew text from that which under-girds the Authorized Version is often used that obliterates the meaning of Psalm 144:12 by changing the word cornerstone to “pillar,” a word which aligns nicely with gender-biased-English-translation-help meet-theology and regulates women to strictly support positions within the home and church. But if Jesus’ position of kephale of the corner has to do with the building, nourishing, edifying, and unifying of His Church—which it does—then every cornerstone in the building has the same function. But like the pyramid [which has many cornerstones but only one chief cornerstone (the capstone)], God’s building also has only one primary angle [cornerstone], only one kephale of the corner, and that is Jesus Christ Himself, the Chief Corner Stone.

[1] Psalm 144:12, “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth that our daughters may be as corner stones polished after the similitude of a palace….”

[2] The CBMW teaches that the one of the criteria for disqualifying women from leadership is prominence, yet the Bible says women will be prominent and gives many examples of prominent Biblical women. http://www.cbmw.org/Journal/Vol-1-No-2/But-What-Should-Women-Do-In-The-Church [4/15/2010]
