But Herod the tetrarch being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife and for all the evils which Herod had done added yet this above all that he shut up John in prison [1]
Luke 3:19-20
[1] This should give pause to anyone who views our Creator as some sort of cosmic Santa Clause then complain when things don't go our way.
Bad things do happen to good people, and we can’t always discern the reason why. But we can trust that all things will work for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose, and that NOTHING can separate us from His love.
The scriptures warn that the righteous will be persecuted, imprisoned, and killed. This has happened in every era throughout history. Jesus said John the Baptist was the greatest prophet that ever walked…yet, for his faithfulness, he was imprisoned and killed by a foolish and wicked king.
The just shall walk by faith...and that faith includes trusting in the promise of Romans 8:39.
