...there was given to me a thorn in the flesh [1] the messenger of Satan to buffet me lest I should be exalted above measure
[1] 2 Corinthians 12:7: Paul’s thorn in the flesh was a physical ailment caused by a spirit of infirmity. This was nothing any physician could heal.
Our Creator thought it better that Paul endure some ailment for a time than to become proud in his heart over the revelations and visions given to him. His thorn in the flesh is believed by some, to have been some kind of disgusting eye problem because of what he wrote in Galatians 4:14-15.
There is no scriptural evidence that Paul suffered with it the rest of his life. In fact, Paul writes of it in the past tense in Galatians 4:14. So this account cannot be used to justify the unbiblical claim that God does not heal. Healing is one of the conditional promises of God, and his Word says it is his will to heal.
