And they spake unto him the word of the Lord and to all that were in his house And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes and was baptized he and all his straightway - Acts 16:32-33
They had wounds [from the beating] that needed tending. They were no doubt
in pretty bad shape and in excruciating pain. Paul wrote about it later (beaten
with rods), and yet they sang praises.
Also notice that no “new Member or baptism
classes” were required—only a profession of faith. The Jailer and his family
professed faith and were immediately baptized.
These days, it’s more difficult
to join a church than become a member of the Body of Christ
…maybe that’s why my grandmother (daughter of a Methodist circuit preacher) refused to "officially" join the church she attended for 40+-years. She never saw the need for it...always said
she was already a member.
Word for the day: Praise the Lord, anyway!
And again, be praising the Lord all the nations and sing songs of praise to him all the peoples.
Nice thought, Jocelyn. Thanks for sharing.
