The 7 Years of Tribulation: Where is it in the Bible?

The teaching of a seven year tribulation finds its genesis in the book of Daniel and is confirmed in the Book of Revelation.

"Seventy Weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city to finish the transgression and to make an end of sins and to make reconciliation for iniquity and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal up the vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks and threescore and two weeks The street shall be built again and the wall even in troubled times And after threescore and two Weeks shall Messiah be cut off but not for himself and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary and the end thereof shall be with a flood and unto the end of the war desolations are determined And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate even until the consummation and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." – Daniel 9:24-27.

Jesus references Daniel in Matthew 24:15-22

We understand from the Seventy Weeks of Daniel, that by watching what happens with God’s great sign—Israel—we can discern and understand the signs of the times –Matthew 13:3.

Many scholars believe the Seventy Weeks of Daniel speak of what is happening with the Jews only when they are in possession of their holy city, Jerusalem, and that is the reason for the centuries-long gap between the 69th and 70th Weeks. The gap represents the time the Jewish people were in exile—not in possession of their land (Israel)—and more specifically, not in possession of their holy city—Jerusalem.

Now for the time-frame of seven years of tribulation:

Genesis 29:27-28 gives the key to understanding the length of each Week: “Fulfill her Week...serve with me yet seven other years. Jacob did so and fulfilled her Week.”  According to scripture, the 70 Weeks in Daniel 9:24 are most 70 Weeks of years with each Week equaling 7 years.

For good reason, many believe the remaining 7 years, Daniel's final Week, to be The Time of Jacob’s Trouble. The Time of Jacob’s Trouble [spoken of by Jeremiah] and the Great Tribulation spoken of by Jesus --Jeremiah 30:7, Matthew 24:21.

Both Daniel and the Book of Revelation reference the 3 1/2 years phases of the seven year time-frame. Daniel writes of the period lasting for a time [1], times [2], and 1/2 a time [3 1/2].  The Revelation gets even more specific using the term 1260 days for the first half and the term 42 months for the second half--two 3 1/2 year phases equaling seven years.
